The Pharaohs of Egypt are inches close to making history as the only African country to win the Nations Cup three times in a row when they beat Cameroon 3-1 in Monday's quarter-finals. The Indomitable Lions piled a lot of pressure on them but could not convert their opportunities into goals.

The 3-1 final score line means that Cameroon tasted their third straight defeat in the hands of Egypt in two African Cup of Nations tournaments. The game was a repetition of the last finals in Ghana when the Pharaohs won by a single goal.
They now meet Algeria in the semi-finals that would be a rematch of the World Cup play-off between the two that saw Algeria making it to South Africa.
The Indomitable Lions dictated the pace of the game and mounted a lot of pressure on the six-time African champions but a controversial free-kick from captain Ahmed Hassan just five minutes into the extra time kept the Pharaohs clean sheet. His kick did not cross the goal line but it went on the blind side of referee Damon Jerome and his officials.
Cameroon opened the score sheet through Hassan’s 26th minute own-goal. His attempt to clear Emana’s corner kick ended up in his own post but Meteep came close to equalizing two minutes later but missed a counter plot from team mate Zidane.
Equalize
Hassan made up for his blunder in the 37th minute when he equalized for the Pharaohs. He took advantage of a defensive error and struck a 34-metre pile driver that hit the ground of goal keeper Kameni’s bottom right post to end the first half one goal apiece.
Mohamed Gedo put the defending champions in front in the injury time when he capitalized on a Jerome Njitap weak back pass to Kameni. He was swift to push the ball in between the legs of his opponents’ goal keeper.
The Paul Le Guen charges failed to take advantage of the several corners that came their way. They came into the game after the 10th minute but five minutes later Zidane sent the fans chanting when he took advantage of a counter attack but Alex Song was quick to bring him down resulting in a free kick that was deflected by the Cameroonian wall two minutes later.
Hassan who capped his 170th game that night to make him Africa's most capped player, was very instrumental after his blunder and was all over the pitch to take his team through.
Cameroonian striker and ace Samuel Eto’o was in his best in the last 15 minutes of the regulation time as he came close to scoring in the 77th minute but his kick went straight into the hands of goal keeper El Hadary. Ten Minutes later Iddrisou set him up 10 yards outside the box but he struck it too wide off the goal post.
The World Cup bound side enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the last ten minutes but failed to convert most of their chances into goal that forced the game into the extra time.
Cameroonian Chedjou was the only player that went into the bad books of the South African referee when he received his marching orders close to the end of the extra time after holding off substitute Gedo as the last man.
Egypt now meet Algeria in the semi-finals that could be a repetition of the World Cup play-off which saw Algeria secure a place in South Africa.
