Algiers: Tense day ends with climax

    The tension rose to high levels in Algiers on November 18 while everyone was preparing for the decisive World Cup qualifier match against Egypt. The game was played in Khartoum, Sudan, and the whole nation saw on televsion how Algeria beat the 'Pharaos' with 1-0.

    Algeria will compete during the World Cup in South Africa next year. The last time they qualified for the end tournament was in 1986.

    Algeria becomes the sixth African team at the finals, joining fellow qualifiers Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Nigeria and hosts South Africa.
