African club wins Hungarian medal

Members of the Afrique Internationale Club de Football were presented with medals from the Hungarian Football Federation for topping Budapest 3rd Division League tournament in the last season. The presentation was held at the annual dinner party which took place at the popular TROFEA RESTAURANT in Budapest on December 28.
    Medals
The success has accelerated the club to a higher division in which it now leads with just one draw and two loses as at the end of first session. The medals were given only to players who played in the last season

The Club Secretary, Emmanuel Chimezie Dike, explained that the immediate aim of the Club is to win Budapest 2nd Division and then proceed to first division, a feat that would earn the Club an opportunity to feature in the Hungarian Professional 3rd Division.

Highlighting the achievements of the club since it was founded in 2005; Dike smiled his thanks saying, "The Club is now being recognized by the Hungarian Football Federation (Budapest section)". He added that the Club has won trophies including the AHU tournament held in Szerencé last summer.

This is quite a feat for a club that started at the bottom barely three years ago, especially when there was no rapport between the former Liberian coach and the players which almost brought the team to the relegation zone until Agonglo Joél Geraldo came on board to instill discipline and hard-work.

    Extra mile

Geraldo, himself a professional player until his new appointment, was being described by both players and management as dedicated, hardworking, sensitive and disciplinarian who is ready to go the extra mile for the success of diligent players.

Dike said: "He is very good. His instructions to the players are well structured. With him we are progressing because he has succeeded in bringing the club to the limelight".

Even though the captain of the team, Samson Emmanuel, admitted that some things need improvement, he commended the coach for what he described as extra-ordinary effort to help players achieve their aims, especially the special gift given to the half-season best footballer, Mboussi Rock, who might be on his way to playing professional football in Israel.

"Tonight the coach has displayed ingenuity for giving gift from his own purse. This is encouraging and we do appreciate it, he said".

    Expectations

Emmanuel, who spoke on behalf of the players, added that although everyone was happy, the players’ expectations have not been met in terms of motivating incentives. He then enjoined both the management and sponsors to do more in this regard so that the players would "put their minds to the team".

But the founder, Victor Nelson, reminded the players that the club is meant to be a Football Academy in which players are expected to pay, adding that to excel in football needs a lot of patience and hard-work.

Nelson stated further that the aim of the club is to help players attain a professional level where they could contribute to the success of Hungarian football, or move to other countries like Barcelona.

His words: "The club's main goal is to help establish African and non-African players who are not able to secure professional clubs in Hungary either because of their skin colour or other reasons, in order to give them the opportunity to keep training for fitness until they are fully ready. We shall invest in good and hardworking players and the coach is there to lend a helping hand. But dedication and discipline must be maintained at all times".

Meanwhile, Geraldo spoke candidly about the future of African players in Hungary saying, some players definitely have future in terms of professional football but they must work harder, and especially integrate into the Hungarian society.

The Benin Republican coach pleaded with the players to embrace integration without which the dream of being successful is remote. "I have been telling them what to do in order to progress since I became coach," he declared. "They need to learn the language as well as work hard. There is no other way".

Although the chief sponsor, Bálogh Sándor, African Hungarian Union president, was absent, the management said that the club was grateful to him. "The FT500, 000 (¤1, 900) monthly financial contribution is well-appreciated".

In spite of some discrepancies between the management and some players, each party it seems, put such misunderstanding behind on a night mainly reserved to reward hard-work and patience. "The club has come to stay," said Augustine Ozonnadi.
