African Youth Panel Meets Again After 3 Years.

  1. The Africa Youth Panel (AYP) was established in 2008 when the Danish Africa Commission (DAC) was consulting various groups from Africa on its work in Africa. The first summit was held in Addis Abba Ethiopia from 16th to 19th November 2008. Young people enthusiastically brainstormed and provided recommendations to the DAC on its work across Africa.

After a successful 2008 summit for young people from across Africa, the Roskilde Festival Association and the Denmark Government are again financing the reconvening of the African Youth Panel. Following the 2008 meeting, a steering committee was set up and guided the activities of the AYP from there on. Subsequently a vibrant and active discussion forum was set up and kept the members together in discussing issues that are affecting young people in Africa. The theme for the summit is Youth Participation, Networking and strengthening capacity for sustainable Development in Africa. The 2011 Summit will among other things discuss issues on youth empowerment, environmental issues, IT development and good governance. The summit will also elect new office bearers for the steering committee. The participants will aim at strengthening the Panel and also mapping a way forward through development of a strategic framework.

The young people are meeting to look at the development of their work over the past 3years, develop new plans and also to make plans for the future to come. Further to this, the participants will also be part of the 2011 Africa Youth Day celebrations on 1st November which are organized by the African Union and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) which are headquartered in Addis Ababa.
