ANOTHER POLITICAL PARTY IN ZAMBIA


  1. An independent member of parliament from Zambia’s western province quit his position to form a new political party.

    the number of political parties in Zambia, a 46 year old democratic country has significantly increased to more than 20 although only four are active namely the ruling movement for multiparty democracy (MMD) the opposition patriotic front (PF) and united party for national development (UPND), who are currently in a pact as well as the united national independence party (UNIP) and forum for democracy and development (FDD.

    Zambia also witnessed the launch of another party in March 2010 called the national restoration party (NAREP) headed by lawyer Elias Chipimo Junior.

    And Charles Milupi a former member of parliament in Luena constituency announced his resignation and subsequent launch of the alliance for development and democracy-add.

    Mr. Milupi said his resignation is in accordance with article 71 [2] c of the constitution of Zambia which provides for members of parliament who change their status while in the house to step down.

    He stated that the newly launched alliance for development and democracy party seeks to bring real and desirable change to Zambian politics.

    He also pointed out that poverty, under-development and suffering of the people is the biggest enemy of every Zambian which his party would like to defeat and eradicate.

    He also emphasized that his party seeks to contribute to entrenching real democracy in Zambia by tackling real issues rather than personalities.

    the add president however stunned observers as he announced his intentions to re-contest the seat on the new party’s ticket during the forth coming by-election adding that he would like to complete his current term in parliament.
