4500 Somalis Refugees in Uganda to be resettled in USA

    At least 4500 Somalis refugees currently staying in Nakivale refugee camp in the western Uganda district of Isingiro are to be resettled in United States of America.

    George Kuchio, a protection officer with the UN refugee agency- UNHCR notes that this is because they found it very difficult to stay in the rural area-based camp.

    He says most of these Somalis refugees were urban based and do not know how to grow crops to supplement the food they receive from UNHCR.

    Kuchio notes that so far 1500 refugees have passed the screening test and 200 of them will depart for USA in a week’s time.

    Meanwhile over 1000 Rwandese have fled to Uganda for fears of what they call political persecution by their government.

    The Rwandese who include women and children are seeking asylum iat Nakivale refugee camp in Isingiro district.

    Most of them says they come from Kisagara district in Southern province of Rwanda while others are from Kibungo and Mutara in Eastern Province.
