In the last two weeks, it’s been celebration galore by states and the federal government in Nigeria about their first 100 days in office.
Not many believe that 100 days is enough to assess a government but for whatever it is worth, it is an American political culture which we have imbibed along with the presidential system of government in the country.
Expectedly government officials gave themselves more than pass mark for whatever accomplishments they claim to have recorded.
I have no problem with whatever claims they all made but like a proverb in my Yoruba tribe it is not what is done at the beginning that matters but the what is eventually accomplished.
There is a lot that has to be done to improve the standard of living in Nigeria and the various government officials have to realize that the journey ahead is still long and cannot afford to play to the gallery.
Sooner or later like their predecessors they will have to leave office and will be judged by the concrete things they achieved and the difference they made in office.
One can only hope that they all have what it takes to run the full race of the full four year term of office.
For returning governors this is yet another opportunity to do better than they did in their first term, while for first timers, they have the opportunity to write their names on the sand of times by living up to their electoral promises.
I wouldn’t hesitate to say it’s been so far so fair but the days ahead will determine who and who did well or not.
