Hundreds of Egyptians protest U.S. decision on Jerusalem

Hundreds of protesters on Thursday gathered in downtown Cairo, Egypt to demonstrate against Donald Trump’s decision to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

Protesters shouted slogans against the decision, which Trump announced last night, joining Arab and European leaders in their rejection of the move.

“We completely reject any interference with any inch of Palestine. Palestine is being occupied by zionists, but we will not let the Palestinian cause go, we are with the Palestinian people and we will not recognize the zionists,” said Activist, Ibrahim Fadoon.

A makeshift Israeli flag was burned during the demonstration as well as a picture of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu and protesters insisted on Jerusalem’s Arabian roots.

“I am here like every other Egyptian and Arab against Trump’s decision. I see it as insulting, aggressive, and arrogance that we cannot accept, and we believe in our right of Jerusalem being Arab and Palestine as well,” said Former Egyptian Presidential Candidate, Hamdeen Sabahi.

Egypt, which forged the first Arab peace deal with Israel in 1979, brushed off Trump’s decision and said it did not change Jerusalem’s disputed legal status.
