Investigation to follow police brutality allegations in Nigeria [The Morning Call]

We begin in Nigeria where the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigerian police better known as ‘SARS’ has come under pressure following claims that a young man was killed over the weekend by the

force. The allegation prompted several Nigerians to share stories and videos of alleged incidents of police brutality levelled against the squad on social media. In one of the several videos shared online,

policemen are seen shouting at and hitting a man on a road between Benin City and Ore, in the southwestern part of Nigeria.

Tony Nwaobi, who shot the video which was uploaded in 2014, said a SARS vehicle tried to force its way through traffic and assaulted a man who criticised them for doing so, leaving him with head

injuries.
