Uhuru Kenyatta wins Kenya's repeat election [The Morning Call]

President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Monday declared winner of Kenya’s presidential election — for the second time this year.

The national elections commission announced Mr. Kenyatta received nearly 7.5 million votes in the repeated vote, held last week as against 1.4 million he polled in August’s election.

Backers of Mr. Kenyatta interpreted both of his wins as national support for the president, but opposition supporters say they had twice been disenfranchised by the process they claim lacks credibility.

Two weeks before last week’s repeat vote, Mr. Odinga withdrew from the second election and called on his supporters to boycott it.

His name nevertheless appeared on the ballot.
