Rwanda's electoral commission to regulate social media [The Morning Call]

Ahead of national elections, Rwanda’s national election commission (NEC) has ruled that presidential candidates’ social media updates need to be pre-approved by the organisation before the candidates can post them online. Many of course have regarded it as an intrusion on the rights of speech and expression. However, considering Rwanda’s past and the genocide, the NEC officials said the move, was to “protect” masses from messages that may be of a divisive nature.
