Violence in Buenos Aires as police and strikers clash

Violence has broken out between police and protesters in Buenos Aires.

Teachers, bus and truck drivers, airport employees, factory workers and customs agents held a 24-hour strike against Argentine President Mauricio Macri’s austerity measures.

Authorities used tear gas and water canon as workers pelted police with rocks.

Those on strike want a pay rise in line with inflation, which is currently running at 40 percent.

Dozens of people have been arrested.
