Pierre Nkurunziza hints of fourth term [The Morning Call]

Burundian president has hinted of running for a fourth term in office in 2020, if his subjects want to change the constitution. Pierre Nkurunziza stood for re-election in 2015, arguing that his first election in 2005 was not by direct vote but by the parliament under a transition mechanism from the civil war and that did not count under the constitution. Burundi’s Tutsi and Hutu clans conflict lasted for twelve years till 2006 and the incumbent stay in power after 2015 has left more than 500 dead and scores jailed.
