In this week’s Culture segment on the Morning Call, Linnete Bahati talks about the sapology movement widely known in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in the Republic of Congo. A festival in honour of the trend’s creator Papa Wemba was recently held in Congo’s coastal city of Pointe Noire and Linnete takes us through what she found out about them.

She also talks about the passing on of Kenya’s renowned afro-jazz artist Achieng Abura who died at the country’s Kenyatta National Hospital.

Zimbabwe’s Mr. Ugly contest is expected to take place on November 25 and a lot of sponsors have come on board to support the event.
Linnete also talks about the MTV Africa Music Awards held on October 22 in South Africa. Artists from across the continent won different awards. For example Kenya’s Sauti Sol won Best Group, C4 Pedro from Angola won Best Lusophone Act while Serge Beynaud from Ivory Coast won Best Francophone Act.
