Morocco's legislative elections were transparent - Rights groups

The legislative elections held in Morocco were just and transparent. This is according to Rights Groups in Morocco after the conclusion of the parliamentary elections that saw Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane’s Islamist Justice and Development Party (PJD) take 125 seats out of 395.

Its main rival, the Authenticity and Modernity Party, which had campaigned against the “Islamisation” of Moroccan society, won 102 seats.

The body had more than 4,000 national and international observers throughout the country.

However, the country’s electoral body raised concerns over voters participation that stood at 43% that is roughly 6,750,000 compared to 2011 elections that stood at 45.4%.

In any case, the real power will remain in the hands of King Mohammed VI, the scion of a monarchy that has ruled the North African country for 350 years.
