Niger: 5 soldiers, 30 terrorists killed following Boko Haram attack

At least 30 terrorists and 5 Nigerien soldiers have been killed between Thursday and Monday following gun fire exchange between Boko Haram militants and Nigerien forces, a statement from Niger’s interior ministry says.

The militants were pushed back following the intervention of Chadian forces present in the region.

Six Nigerien soldiers were also wounded during the operation while two suspected militants were captured with a large quantity of weapons and ammunition seized.

Niger’s military suspects that the militants were targeting Toumour village, 75 kilometres North of Diffa, where refugees who fled Bosso had settled after repeated attacks by terrorists.

Toumour had earlier been attacked on September 2, leaving five people dead and two others wounded.

Earlier in June, Boko Haram had launched an offensive against Nigerien military positions at Bosso killing 27 Nigerien soldiers and several civilians.
