Fresh clashes erupt between Libyan troops and ISIS

Fresh clashes erupted on Monday in Libya’s eastern city of Misrata, between Libyan troops and fighters of the Islamic State group.

According to military officials, the fighting broke out at a time when armed forces in the city of Sirte, had announced their plans to recapture areas occupied by Islamic State militants. The city has been controlled by the rebel group since June 2015.

Meanwhile, in a meeting held in Vienna, Austria, the international community endorsed a request to arm and train Libyan soldiers to help step up the fight against the terror group.

It will provide material support, without foreign military intervention.

Twenty-five regional delegations signed the communique supporting the lifting of embargo on arms sales to #Libya. https://t.co/YtkVJr4mY9— africanews (@africanews) May 16, 2016
