“Ten years ago, it began with a single Tweet, since then , every moment of everyday, people connect about the things they care about most, all over the world,” he said.

He added that Twitter has changed the way people communicate online, most notably with its 140 character format. Dorsey urged users to be judicious with their words.

He said the social platform has also become a go-to for following world events in real time.

Although loved by many, the last few years of the platform have been turbulent. Its share price has hit new low time again since the start of the year. Some executives have left the company while investors have expressed doubt about Dorsey.

However, the firm remains optimistic, thanking users in its birthday blog post for “making history, driving change, lifting each other up and laughing together every day.”

The rise of Twitter began with the fall of a star-up called Odeo, a platform for podcasting as founders were hammering out final details to the project, Apple launched iTunes podcasting, rendering Odeo obsolete.

In an attempt to replace the podcasting concept, the CEO, Williams Odeo called on employees to get together another idea, then Jack Dorsey was brought into the project.

Dorsey pitched an idea and as the group leader, refined a demo of what was named “ twttr”.

“twittr later became Twitter.
