Egypt opens Gaza border

North African country Egypt has opened its side of the Gaza border allowing more than hundred people to cross over.

Islamist group Hamas that rules Gaza made the gesture known publicly, adding that the Rafah crossing is open for two days.

The move comes years after Egypt and Israel imposed a blockade on the border in 2007, after Hamas seized the territory from forces loyal to the Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Occasionally,Egypt allows Humanitarian aid to enter Gaza from the Israel side.

Israel has pushed for a blockade, saying it is to prevent Hamas from importing weapons and other supplies that could influence instability.
