Somalia: Women protest against al-Shabaab restaurant attack

Close to a hundred women matched on the streets of Somalia protesting against a recent attack on a Mogadishu restaurant which left 19 people dead.

“We are here to show our support and mourn the death of innocent civilians killed here. We insist that our enemy cannot win,” a protester, Fatima Ali Hassan said.

Members of the civil society in Somalia are shocked and sad about these deadly attacks.

“Every body should show support to the children, fetus, pregnant women and graduates who were killed,” Batula Sheikh Ahmed, president of the Association of Somali women said.

There was total confusion after the explosions in the seaside restaurant on January 21, 2016.

Attempts by terrorists to kill more civilians were halted by a counteroffensive by security forces. Four al-Shabaab gunmen were killed and one captured.

The Somali government condemned the attacks saying it was “barbaric.”
