Speaking before the General Assembly, the minister for Environment, Hakima El Haite said the COP 22 scheduled in Morocco will be the action conference.

She recalled that Morocco began its fight against climate change in the 60’s with the policy of dams, followed by water policies and agriculture and energy in the year 2008.

“Morocco believes that climate change represents an opportunity for development, the creation of added value and jobs with a strong private sector participation, cooperatives and NGOs.”

Morocco has considered reducing its energy consumption by 15 percent by 2030.

However, the challenge would be to outpace its predecessor, France, considering the accolades the European country received from both government and civil society delegates at COP 21.
