Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali has elected Marie-Chantal Rwakazina as the new mayor, replacing Pascal Nyamurinda, who resigned last month.
The 45 year old economist was elected by the council of the city of Kigali with 146 votes against 32 votes in favour of her challenger.
Article 160 of Rwanda’s elections law stipulates that the electoral college of the executive committee of the City of Kigali comprises members of the Council of Kigali City; council members of the districts that make up the City of Kigali; and members of the bureau from all sectors of the city.
