Nigeria army raids home of missing Biafra leader again

Nigerian soldiers over the weekend launched a new raid on the residence of Nnamdi Kanu, the missing leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)

The latest development was confirmed by Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother of the pro-Biafra leader, who said the soldiers claim they were looking for technical items.

He adds that the officers made away with household items like television sets, clothes and generator sets, claims an official of the army denied.

The officer, however, confirmed the raid which he said was a joint operation with other security agencies to retrieve ‘technical items’ from the residence.

The officer in question is quoted by local portals as saying the raid was based on a security report that suggested that arms were being hidden in the compound. A person was reportedly arrested with a weapon in the compound.

Nnamdi Kanu has been missing since the middle of September when members of IPOB and the army clashed at his home located in the city of Umuahia in Abia State.

Kanu is leading a seccession movement pushing for the independent state of Biafra. The earlier push for a separate republic of Biafra was championed by Chief Ojukwu nearly 50 years ago.

The declaration of independence sparked a civil war which left more than a million people dead. President Buhari has previously said the unity of Nigeria was non-negotiable.
