As the world marks the United Nations designated World Tourism Day on Wednesday, many Africans took advantage of the day to show the world the side of Africa never seen before.
It should be made clear that Africa is not a country and there are 54 independent states governed by their leaders and diverse laws.
Citizens of countries in the continent shared magnificent pictures online of sites and tourism spots in their countries which are not popular like the regular safari and animal kingdom displayed in Western media to represent Africa.
Individuals and state institutions alike flooded Twitter with such pictures using the hashtag #WorldTourismDay to besides educating the world of the numerous sites in their countries, show that there is more to Africa than what is known.
Below are a few of such posts and their respective photographs attached.
