South Sudanese President Salva Kiir declared a state of emergency on Monday in his home state of Gogrial, following intensified inter-ethnic clashes.
In a televised broadcast read on his behalf by the country’s information minister, the head of state said the army would be given powers to stop the fighting and that citizens’ rights will be suspended in the three-month state of emergency.
