Egypt's Islamic State leader warns Muslims to avoid Christian gatherings

Egypt

Egypt’s Islamic State leader has warned Muslims to stay away from Christian gatherings

The militant leader sent the warning suggesting the extremists will continue their attacks against the religious minority’s places of worship as well as government, military and police facilities.

Islamist militants are increasingly targeting religious minorities. In April two Islamic State suicide bombers killed at least 45 people at two coptic churches.

Recently Pope Francis visited the North African country to send a message of tolerance and co-existence.

The visit was designed to forge Muslim-Christian brotherhood and show solidarity with the country’s persecuted Coptic Christian minority.

In a series of speeches during his two-day stay, the pope delivered his bluntest denunciations yet against religious violence.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has vowed to root the country from extremism.

Egypt has been fighting a long-running insurgency by the local IS affiliate with hundreds of soldiers, policemen and civilians having been killed in the insurgency.
