Cameroon's Nkoulou withdraws from international duty

Cameroon

Cameroonian Defender Nicolas Nkoulou is taking a break from international football.

The former captain of the Indomitable Lions who helped his side emerge victorious after scoring a powerful header and defeating Egypt 2-1 in finals of the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations, told a French news portal,

“After winning the Africa Cup of Nations, I have a sense of having accomplished my duty for our country. I have decided to take a break from the national team…I wish to concentrate on my career at the Club.”

The 26 year-old has made 74 appearances for the Indomitable Lions.

He is currently on the reserve bench at his Club, Olympique Lyonnais, which is fourth in the French Ligue 1 table standing.

Though he says the decision to quit playing for his country is difficult, Nkoulou admits defending Cameroon has always guided his steps and even hinted that he would return to the national team by saying, “a lion never dies.”
