Democratic Republic Of Congo
Pope Francis has launched a new call for a return to calm in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
During the Angelus prayer on Thursday the sovereign pontiff condemned the clashes in the opposing camps which have been going on for more than six months now especially in the South and Kasai Central. He equally expressed concern about the fate of child soldiers in the DRC.
“ I strongly share the pain of the victims especially those of many of our children taken away from their families and schools to be used as child soldiers. It is a tragedy for children to be used as child soldiers. I once more make an urgent appeal to the national authorities and the International community so that they can take appropriate decisions and act fast in order to help these brothers and sisters,” Pope Francis said.
A video bringing to the limelight Congolese soldiers perpetrating massacres went viral this week .
The UN mission in Congo has opened an investigation on the video as well as other possible massacres which might have occured in other places of the Kasai region.
