The final of the 2017 Africa cup of Nations was not in anyway a remake of the 1986 or 2008 final.
The Indomitable lions roared on the pharoahs to lift the AFCON trophy for an important fifth time.
The atmosphere among Cameroonian fans in Gabon is representative of the huge win they had on Sunday night. They were interviewed by Africanews journalist Juliet Bawuah.
“As you can see I am filled with joy. So much joy. We are champions of Africa. We have got the fifth title. Thank you, Thank you, thank you Lions,” one fan said.
Another added “Very satisfied with the victory of the Lions. We have succeeded in putting the pharoahs in the stew. With Aboubakar’s spectacular performance.He deserves our maximum respect.”
“What can I really tell God. Thank you Lord for making me a Cameroonian. Thank you a lot for what you have done for Cameroon, “ an excited Cameroonian female fan shouted. Minimised, written off and called weaklings they have succeeded in creating their own history here in Gabon. And remember Cameroon will be hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of nations. And who knows they might be hosting and also defending their title.
