Visiting Chinese official pledges China's continued aid to Africa

Visiting Chinese official pledges China's continued aid to Africa

Diplomacy

Chinese top diplomat on Wednesday said China will continue to lend a helping hand to Africa for economic development and infrastructure construction on the continent.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks after meeting Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in the capital city of Abuja.
He said his five-nation tour to Africa had delivered three important points.

“First, China will go on following its tradition of making Africa its foreign ministers’ first stop of a diplomatic tour every year. It’s much more than a pose. We know it is of political significance. To put it another way, no matter how powerful China become in the future, we’ll continue to stand side by side with developing countries, and with Africa,” he added.

He noted that China is willing to encourage African countries to build their confidence, work in unity and help one another, in order to cope with various current new challenges.

“China has stronger friendship and more extensive cooperation with Africa than with other countries. China is ready and able to make new contributions to peace and development in Africa through strengthening the cooperation with African countries,” Wang Yi explained.
