Trump blasts opponents of good US relations with Russia

Could frosty relations between the US and Russia soon be a thing of the past?

President-Elect Donald Trump hopes so – taking to Twitter to denounce as ‘stupid’ anyone opposing a thaw.

This is despite a damning US intelligence report accusing Moscow of interfering in November’s election.

“Having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing.” he wrote.

“Only ‘stupid’ people, or fools, would think that it is bad!”

“We have enough problems around the world without yet another one. When I am President, Russia will respect us far more than they do now and both countries will, perhaps, work together to solve some of the many great and pressing problems and issues of the WORLD!”

The Kremlin has always denied any hacking campaign to hurt Hillary Clinton and help Trump win the presidency.

Despite his stance, Trump has confirmed a strong critic of Russia’s annexation of Crimea as his new Director of National Intelligence.

Former US Senator Dan Coats, who is 73, is a traditional conservative from Indiana. He was also the American ambassador to Germany under Republican President George W. Bush.
