Nigerian govt releases over $1.1m for payment of national football teams

The Nigeria Office of the Accountant General of the Federation has released the mandate to Central Bank of Nigeria for payment of naira equivalent of US$1,173,820.00 at N305/$ to Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The amount is to pay outstanding winning bonuses of Super-Eagles in the 2018 World Cup Qualifying Matches and for the Super-Falcons participation in the 10th Women’s Africa nations Cup.

The latest development is in furtherance of the approval from Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, for the said amount to be paid.

In a statement signed by Kenechukwu N, on behalf of the Accountant General, he said the mandate, which is a sum of N358 million, was paid by Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday.

Similarly, another mandate for N113.8 million has also been released by Office of Accountant General of the Federation for the payment of wining bonus for Super Eagles in the 2018 World Cup Qualifying matches; and for the Super Falcon’s participation in the 10th Women’s Africa Nation’s Cup.

This amount has also been paid to Nigeria Football Federation and is equally sequel to the approval of the minister of finance.

Members of the Nigeria female football national team, the Super-Falcons, had on Wednesday stormed the National Assembly, at the capital, Abuja protesting the non-payment of their allowances by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

The team recently won the 10th edition of the African Women Championship held in Cameroon.

Members of the Nigeria Super Falcons squad seized the trophy they won at the just concluded African Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon, saying they will not release it until the NFF pays them all outstanding bonuses and allowances.

They claimed the NFF is owing them a debt up to a whopping N238.05million,( over $7m) an amount that has accumulated over time.
