Egypt’s parliament approved a controversial bill last week to regulate the activities of non-governmental organisations, in a move expected to trigger new fears of an intensified crackdown on civil society. The draft bill calls jail terms of up to five years and fines of up to one million Egyptian pounds for violations of the law.
