Football: Congo coach sacked

Republic of the Congo

Congolese football federation has fired coach Pierre Lechantre.

The French coach was let go as the manager of the national team following Congo’s dismal start to the World Cup qualifiers.

Congo sat at the bottom of Group E in the qualifiers after losing their first two games against Egypt and Uganda.

The 66 year old was appointed in January following the departure of Claude Leroy.

Congo have only won one win in seven games since Lechantre took over as manager

Lechantre, failed to secure Congo a place in the 2017 African Cup of Nations after they finished second in Group E behind Guinea Bissau.

Congo’s chances for a slot in the World Cup qualifiers are dimmed as they are due to meet Ghana in Accra in the third round of the qualifiers before facing Ghana again a week later in Brazzaville.
