Former Ivorian international footballer Laurent Pokou has died at the age of 69.
Pokou considered an emblematic figure in African football died in Abidjan from a long illness.
Among his career highlights, he is remembered as the long-time record holder for the highest number of goals scored by a single player at the African Cup of Nation tournament, a record which was broken 30 years later by Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o.
Laurent Pokou played for Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas as well as for AS Nancy in France.
He also played for the Ivorian national team making 70 appearances in all.
