Mali
Seven soldiers have been killed and seven others wounded after a military camp was attacked by assailants in the North of Mali on Sunday.
The attack occurred around Gourma Rhaous at Timbuktu.
According to local and security sources, the insurgents burnt and went away with some military equipment .
Calm returned to the region few hours later.
According to Malian security sources the incident can be linked to terrorism although no terrorist group is yet to claim responsibility for the attack.
The North of Mali has been the target of armed groups for close to three years now.
The jihadists have been frequently targeting Malian army positions as well as those of the MINUSMA forces.
The intervention of French forces in 2013 helped in pushing back the jihadists although maintaining security has not been easy.
The vast nature of the North makes security control a herculean task due to continuous influence by the jihadists.
