There is a Manchester derby on Wednesday evening, Manchester City make the trip to play Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United at Old Trafford. The game, even though a cup competition, is important for both teams who are in bad domestic form.
Ahead of the fixture, City manager, Pep Guardiola has disclosed that he would have loved to select Ivorian international, Yaya Toure, except that the player has refused to obey his disciplinary guidelines.
‘‘You know the situation from Yaya, I would like come [into a game] with Yaya, believe me, I would like that but you know the situation,’‘ he told reporters ahead of City’s second clash with United.
The impasse between Guardiola and the former Ivorian skipper is over an apology he has asked Toure to render to the first team. The players’ agent, Dimitri Seluk, openly criticized the decision of Guardiola to leave Toure out of City’s Champions league squad.
Man City won the first league fixture between the sides at old Trafford, they have since gone on a bad run of form with no win in five games. United on the other hand have had inconsistent results with their last loss being a 4 – 0 thrashing to Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge.
Toure has been victorious in seven Manchester derbies since joining City, scoring four times. According to Guardiola, the current slump in his side was because he was still getting to know his players and more about the domestic competition as a whole.
‘‘I am still learning. I will like to learn as quick as possible but my feeling now is that I am still learning – not just the Premier League but (about) my team,’‘ he said.
