Malawians are questioning the president’s health after prolonging his stay in the United States.
Rumours indicate that President Peter Mutharika is gravely ill and was hospitalised.
However, the government continues to deny rumours with officials claiming that president Mutharika is enjoying very robust health.
“These rumours are baseless, malicious and sickening to say the least. The president is enjoying very robust health and is continuing to carry on his functions and duties whilst in the USA,” said the country’s Information Minister, Malison Ndau.
Ndau went further to warn Malawians over the rumours reminding them that spreading false stories was a criminal offence and that rumour- mongers would be swiftly brought to book.
President Mutharika left for the UN general assembly two weeks ago and since the end of the summit, he has gone missing.
