CAF president Issa Hayatou was on Sunday made an honorary member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of which he is a member since 2001.

Hayatou who is also a senior vice-president of FIFA was confered an honorary member at the 129th session of the proceedings that ended on Sunday in Rio, ahead of the Olympic games closing ceremony. IOC President Thomas Bach praised his role in the development of football in Africa and for the committee.

This session of the Committee also voted to have 5 new members join the comiision, among them, former Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva.

And in his wrap-up assesment of the games, the IOC President said Rio has shown that a developing nation can host the Olympic Games and that there is no one-size-fits-all template for success.
