Kenya to tap into Cuba's 'best healthcare model'

Kenya to tap into Cuba's 'best healthcare model'

Kenya

The Kenyan government is planning on cooperating with Cuba to help improve and provide quality and affordable healthcare services in the country.

This was discussed in Nairobi on Wednesday when the outgoing Cuban Ambassador to Kenya, Raul Rodriguez Ramos visited President Uhuru Kenyatta to bid farewell.

“Cuba has one of the best health models in the world. I believe there is a lot we can share on health,” President Kenyatta said while looking forward to a broader relationship in agriculture, education, tourism and sports.

Ambassador Ramos, on his part, called for a partnership in the pharmaceutical industry. “We can also work together in improving our pharmaceutical industries. There is a lot the two countries can learn from each other in this area,” he said.

He expressed gratitude for the welcome and requested Kenya to establish an embassy in Havana to strengthen the ties between the two countries.

The Cuban health system is recognized worldwide for its excellence and its efficiency despite the extremely limited resources and the dramatic impact caused by the economic sanctions imposed by the United States for more than half a century.
