Sirte
Libyan pro-government forces further advanced against the Islamic State group in the coastal town of Sirte.
The forces who were led by brigades from the city of Misrata staged attacks by land, sea and air.
IS militants are now encircled in Sirte’s residential areas.
The forces were happy over their progress in the city which is a stronghold for the militants
“Thanks be to God that our fighters have gained ground in district 2. The forces are enthusiastic even as they face the snipers. The mines are a problem for us but the engineering battalion is carrying out de-mining operations,” said a solider.
But the victory was not without fatalities. Four soilders were killed while 32 others were wounded in Sunday’s fighting, adding to the toll of over 300 others who have been killed ,while 1,800 others wounded since May, in the battle to retake Sirte.
