Brazilian football legend Pele is still unsure if he will be able to light the cauldron at the 2016 Rio opening ceremony, two days ahead of the official opening of the Games.
Pele revealed he was invited to light the cauldron at the opening ceremony by Rio 2016 organizing committee chairman Carlos Arthur Nuzman in person. However, the football icon is still unsure about taking on the task.
“ Actually everybody is asking me the same question, it’s already an honor to be asked, but I still can’t confirm it, because I have to take part in a program in the same time period, I’m supposed to be traveling then. So I’m still checking if I could cancel the travel, and it will be a huge pity if I can’t make it,” said the Brazilian football legend.
He further said that he will try his best to make an appearance at the games, and support the Brazilian football team as they attempt to claim the Olympic championship on home soil.
