Seven people were killed in clashes early Sunday morning between the Congolese army supported by UN peacekeepers and Ugandan rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in Oicha, in the east of DRC.
“Clashes between FARDC (Seven people were killed in clashes early Sunday morning between the Congolese army supported by UN peacekeepers and Ugandan rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in Oicha, in the east of DRC.) and the ADF have resulted in three dead among the assailants, two FARDC soldiers and two civilians were killed including a teacher,” Lieutenant Mak Hazukay, spokesman of the army in the region told AFP on Sunday.
“An FARDC soldier and peacekeeper are seriously injured,” the officer added saying the clashes ensued after the army responded to an ADF attack late Saturday.
The ADF is a group of Ugandan Muslim rebels present in the eastern DRC since 1995. They are accused by the Congolese government and the UN mission, MONUSCO, for several killings in the region.
