Democratic Republic Of Congo
The UN force in the Democratic Republic of Congo, MONUSCO has dispatched an evaluation mission to Tenambo after the death of 9 civilians on Tuesday.
The Armed Forces of the DRC and the UN mission said they had repulsed the attackers who killed civilians and looted livestock.
But there’s confusion about the supposed repulsion.
While MONUSCO’s support is reported to have pushed back the militias, civil society accuses the two forces of not having moved, while their closest positions are located a few kilometers from the area attacked by the assailants.
The evaluation mission is expected to shed light on the attack.
Nine civilians were murdered early on Tuesday, the latest in a long spate of attacks in eastern Congo’s North Kivu province.
The overnight raid targeted the town of Oicha, where more than 500 people have been killed in numerous attacks, often carried out with machetes, since October 2014.
Congolese officials and MONUSCO attributed Tuesday’s killings to the Allied Democratic Forces , a partly Islamist armed group from Uganda.
