Justin Gatlin finished first in the American men’s 100 metres trials to qualify for his third straight Olympics.
He finished the race at 9.8 seconds which is the fastest 100 metres run this year and the second fastest time run in the history of the US olympic trials.
Gatlin said he is hopeful it is going to be a dream 100 metres sprint at the Rio Olympics
“You know it’s the name of the game for track and field right now, you know it’s a lot of nicks and bruises going around, it’s an Olympic year a lot of crazy stuff happens but you know hopefully everyone gets well, we get to the line it will be a dream 100 (metre sprint at Rio Olympics),” Gatlin said after winning the US trials.
Allyson Felix and Lashawn Meritt claimed wins in the 400 metres event finishing with the fastest times run this year in the female and male categories respectively.
