The Ghanaian returns to South Africa few months after being released by PSL side Maritzburg United. He will now join the backroom staff at the Amakhosis, becoming the right hand man to former Bafana Bafana coach Steve Komphela.

He will team up with Komphela, Marco Muhnoz (physical trainer) and Alexandre Revoredo (goalkeeper coach) to prosecute the Kaizer Chiefs local and continental ambitions in the coming season.

Paintsil called time on his 17-year playing career last week announcing his retirement, he developed a good bond with Komphela who was his manager during his time at Maritzburg, mainly seen as the reason why he was hired.

The former Maccabi Tel Aviv player joins a list of former Ghanaian players such as Otto Addo, Ibrahim Tanko, C.K Akonnour and Yaw Preko who have taken to management after their active careers.
