In a factory in Egypt’s capital Cairo, workers are busy with production of stylish handbags for the fashion frenzy shoppers.
This production is the works of two sisters Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf who are hoping to catch the eye of the international market.
Already, some of their works have been worn by Hollywood stars.
Every bag has a story which empowers the woman who buys it, because it makes her the 'working woman' who buys her own things and is happy about it.
“Okhtein is an Egyptian brand that we’re trying to turn international. My sister and I are trying to support Egyptian women, and all women for that matter, even our clients who purchase our bags. Every bag has a story which empowers the woman who buys it, because it makes her the ‘working woman’ who buys her own things and is happy about it,” said Mounaz.“Okhtein” was launched in 2013 by the design duo with a vision to draw international attention to the inherent culture of Egyptian artisanship. The sisters are setting new trends by presenting unique ideas.
“We get a lot of requests from abroad, from Tokyo, Australia, who ask us how they can get our bags. So from the beginning we’ve had a restraint on how to ship the bags. But now, we’ve invested a lot in our online store, which means that delivering the bags would be much easier,” said Aya.
The sky is the limit for the sisters who are now eyeing the London fashion week this fall. Okhtein is now one of Cairo’s most well-known brands.
