China and Togo sign agreements to take cooperation to higher heights

Togo’s development is set to receive a boost as China has promised to assist the country build an industrial system.

Chinese financial institutions are also expected to support the infrastructure development in Togo.

Chinese president, Xi Jinping made the revelations when he held talks with the Togolese leader, Faure Gnassingbe, in Beijing on Monday.

Diplomatic relations between the two nations were established 44 years ago and the two countries have been cooperating on various fronts since then.

The two leaders at the talks on Monday, however said they were ready to take their cooperation to newer levels that will benefit the people of their respective countries.

Xi Jinping said China will cooperate with Togo in the area of security to among others fight against piracy in the Gulf of Guinea as well as crack down on transnational organised crimes.

The Chinese support will also be extended to Togo’s agriculture and fisheries sectors, according to the Chinese leader.

Togo’s president, Faure Gnassingbe, assured his Chinese counterpart that his government will offer better policies and an improved legal environment to attract more Chinese investment.

He also expressed his government’s preparedness to fully implement the decisions from the China-Africa Cooperation Summit held in Johannesburg last year with the aim of achieving common development through win-win cooperation.

The two leaders after the meeting, witnessed the signing of cooperation documents on foreign affairs, economy, technology and infrastructure development.
