Thailand's penis-biting python story creates media storm

The story of the 38-year-old Thai man, Atthaporn Boonmakchuay, whose penis and testicles were bitten by a three-metre python while answering to nature’s call on Wednesday, has taken over both social and news media space by storm.

The man, who is reportedly recovering at a nearby hospital, was using his squat toilet early morning when the python “sunk its fangs in his testicles and penis and was pulling him down as he yelled out to his wife and neighbours for help,” local media, bangkokpost.com reported.

Atthaporn, in the three-minute battle to save his penis from the python, grabbed the snake by the head loosening its hold before his neighbours stormed in to help.

I felt as though my penis had been severed.

“I felt as though my penis had been severed. The snake was yanking very hard,” Atthaporn, who had lost a lot of blood told local media.

Some news media worldwide have given an in-depth coverage to the story with video and still images of the blood stained toilet as well as the rescue of the python by emergency workers who had to dismantle the squat toilet to free it.

It is reported that the python has been freed into the wild on Thursday by the emergency workers and the victim said he was in good spirits as he suffered no infection.

On social media, the buzz is either about the misfortune of using a squat toilet, of which the victim is planning on replacing, or the idea of visiting Thailand. For now, both Atthaporn and snake are the talk of the world.
