Zamalek not quitting Egyptian football league

Zamalek not quitting Egyptian football league

Egypt

Egyptian champions Zamalek have rescinded their decision to withdraw from the Egyptian Premier League.

The serial champions had said they were pulling out because of “disastrous refereeing errors” which they say could gift title to rivals Al Ahly.

But in a reversed decision, Zamalek say they will honour their remaining matches.

Club President Mortada Mansour told the Club’s website: “We didn’t totally reverse the withdrawal, we have just frozen it until we meet with Sports Minister Khaled Abdel-Aziz, as we are sticking to our demand for the sacking of referee committee head Gamal El-Ghandour who offended the whole competition after what happened during Ahly-Contractors game.”

Zamalek are eight points behind leaders Ahly with five matches left.

They will now play ENPPI on Thursday.
